Participants will explore evidence-based techniques to enhance language acquisition, content comprehension, and overall academic success for these learners.

  • Understanding ELLs: Definition, characteristics, and unique challenges SIOP (Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol)

  • Model: Implementing effective lesson planning strategies

  • Best Practices: Research-based approaches for engaging ELLs and migrant learners

  • Language Instruction: Techniques to develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills

  • Content Instruction: Strategies for making subject matter accessible across disciplines

  • Multilingual Resources: Utilizing and creating materials that support language diversity

  • Translanguaging: Incorporating activities that leverage students' full linguistic repertoires

Through interactive Zoom meetings and asynchronous work via Schoology, educators will gain valuable skills to create inclusive, supportive learning environments that unlock the potential of ELLs and migrant learners.
