Art of Connection: Empowering Art Teachers to Create Inclusive, Positive Environments Through Creative Activities

This professional learning opportunity will equip K-12 art educators with creative and effective strategies to foster community, build routines, and cultivate positive relationships during the first weeks of school. Teachers will explore activities such as: "Artistic License," where students design personal creative statements, and "Partner Portraits," which encourage collaboration and mutual understanding. The "Classroom Charter" will guide students in co-creating a set of values for their learning environment, promoting shared ownership and respect. Additionally, the "Your Color Palette" activity allows students to reflect on their personalities through color choices, encouraging self-expression and connection. By implementing these engaging and thoughtful exercises, teachers will create an inclusive, welcoming space where students feel valued and empowered.

Assignments for the course will include the following:
Assignment 1: Create a Student Profile Art Project (Artistic license/Tiny Art Show)
Assignment 2: Explore a Partner Portrait Collaboration
Assignment 3: Classroom Charter Creation
Assignment 4: Design a Color Palette Self-Reflection
